Dow ends higher; S&P 500, Nasdaq fall as technology shares offset tax optimism

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gave up a triple-digit gain but held on to post a record close Monday, while a slump for tech shares dragged the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 lower. According to preliminary numbers, the Dow ended the day with a gain of around 58 points, or 0.2%, to finish near 24,291 , after trading as high as 24,534.04 in early action. The tech-heavy Nasdaq meanwhile, ended more than 1% lower, while the S&P 500 gave up gains that took it to an intraday record, finishing with a loss of 0.1%. Stocks initially rallied, boosted after tax-cut legislation cleared the Senate.
