U.S. stocks end lower in broad decline as financials fall

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite lost ground for a third straight day Tuesday as broad weakness weighed on stocks. The tech sector, which had seen heavy losses over the past week, held on to a small daily gain, but all other main S&P 500 sectors ended lower. The S&P 500 finished down 0.4%, while the Dow industrials dropped nearly 110 points, or 0.5%, to close near 24,181, according to preliminary figures. The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.2%.
